Trump Rejects Russia’s Claim of Drone Attack on Putin’s Home

US President Donald Trump on Sunday said that American officials have found no evidence that Ukraine targeted a residence linked to Russian President Vladimir Putin in a recent drone incident, dismissing Moscow’s claims.

Russia had accused Ukraine of launching drones near Putin’s state residence in the Novgorod region. Russian officials claimed that air defense systems intercepted the drones and criticized Kyiv for allegedly carrying out such an act during sensitive peace negotiations.

The claim surfaced a day after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Florida for talks with Trump. The discussions focused on a US-backed peace framework aimed at ending the ongoing war. Zelenskyy strongly denied Russia’s allegation.

While returning to Washington after a stay in Florida, Trump told reporters that US intelligence reviewed the incident and concluded that Putin’s residence was not the target.

Trump said something may have occurred in the surrounding area, but there was no confirmation of a strike aimed at the Russian president’s residence. He added that after verification, US officials do not believe such an attack took place.

Earlier in the week, Trump appeared concerned after discussing the issue with Putin during a phone call. At that time, he said he was upset by the accusation. However, his tone later shifted as he questioned the credibility of Russia’s claim and suggested it could harm peace efforts.

European officials have also dismissed Russia’s version of events, stating that the allegation may have been intended to undermine negotiations.

Trump has struggled to meet his campaign promise of ending the Ukraine war quickly and has shown frustration with both Moscow and Kyiv. While Trump and Zelenskyy said recent talks were constructive, Russia has indicated it will not end the war unless its demands are met, including control over eastern Ukrainian territories and limits on Ukraine’s military capabilities.
