Canada Cuts Visa Waits Indian Visitors 57 Days

New Delhi / Ottawa – Canada has updated its visa and immigration processing timelines, leading to significantly faster turnaround for certain categories, particularly for applicants from India, according to the latest release by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Under the new estimates, Indian visitor visa wait times have dropped sharply, falling from roughly *71 days to about 57 days. This marks one of the largest improvements in recent IRCC updates and benefits tourists, family visitors, and travellers planning short stays in Canada.

Work permit processing has also seen slight improvements for Indian applicants, with timelines dropping from about eight weeks to approximately seven weeks. Meanwhile, study permit processing times remain stable — Indian students can still expect an average wait of about four weeks for decisions.

A notable change came in the dependent child sponsorship category, where processing times for applications from India have been cut in half – from roughly 16 months to 8 months — greatly shortening wait periods for families hoping to reunite in Canada.

Despite these improvements, not all visa categories saw positive shifts. Some work permit applications from certain countries experienced longer waits, and processing times for super visas — often used for extended family visits — remain lengthy in some cases.

IRCC regularly updates these processing timelines, which are updated based on actual application outcomes and workloads at visa processing centres. Applicants are advised to plan ahead and check timelines before applying.
