Toronto police are investigating after someone fired shots outside the U.S. Consulate in downtown Toronto early Tuesday morning, officials said.

Officers were called to the area near University Avenue and Queen Street West at around 5:29 a.m. after reports that a firearm had been discharged at the consulate building. When police arrived, they found evidence confirming that gunfire had taken place, including shell casings at the scene.

No injuries have been reported, and authorities have not released any information about possible suspects or a motive. The damage appeared to involve the exterior of the building, and investigators have urged anyone with information — including dash cam or surveillance footage from nearby blocks — to contact Toronto police.

Officials said part of University Avenue remained closed as police continued their investigation. While the incident is under review, no further details on leads or arrests have been made public.

The case continues to develop, with law enforcement working to piece together what led to the firearm discharge near the diplomatic mission.
