Iran FM Araghchi Arrives In Pakistan Ahead Of Talks

Abbas Araghchi, the foreign minister of Iran, arrived in Islamabad on Friday as diplomatic efforts continue to revive ceasefire talks with the United States. His visit comes at a time of uncertainty over whether direct negotiations between the two countries will take place.

According to officials, Araghchi’s visit is focused on discussing proposals for restarting peace talks and coordinating with regional partners. He is expected to meet senior Pakistani leadership to review the current situation and explore ways to move forward with mediation efforts.

However, there are mixed signals regarding direct engagement with US officials. While Pakistani sources indicated that no formal meeting between Iranian and American representatives was scheduled, the White House stated that special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would travel to Pakistan to continue discussions with the Iranian side.

Pakistan has emerged as a key mediator in the ongoing conflict, hosting earlier rounds of talks that failed to produce a breakthrough. Officials say Araghchi’s visit will likely be brief and focused on presenting Iran’s position, which Islamabad may then communicate to Washington.

Regional diplomacy is also expanding, with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani holding discussions with Donald Trump on the status of the ceasefire agreement. Qatar has expressed support for Pakistan’s mediation efforts and is coordinating with international partners to encourage dialogue.

The previous round of talks, led by JD Vance, did not lead to a clear agreement, and tensions remain high. Although a ceasefire was extended recently to allow more time for negotiations, both sides continue to disagree on key issues, including Iran’s nuclear programme and broader regional security concerns.

Meanwhile, the conflict continues to affect global markets, especially oil prices, due to concerns about disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global energy supplies.

Araghchi has also indicated that his diplomatic tour will include visits to other countries such as Oman and Russia, as Iran seeks broader regional coordination. He emphasized that cooperation with neighbouring countries remains a priority for Tehran.

Despite ongoing efforts, no confirmed timeline for the next round of US-Iran talks has been announced. Analysts say progress will depend on whether both sides are willing to make compromises and engage in sustained dialogue.

The situation remains fluid, with diplomatic channels open but outcomes still uncertain as the region watches closely for any signs of progress toward peace.
