Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q), part of Qatar Foundation, recently held its annual Marhaba Tartans event aimed at welcoming newly accepted students while providing insight into university life ahead of their enrollment decisions.

This year has seen an exceptional rise in applicant numbers, with over 3,000 students vying for places. In response, CMU-Q expanded its first-year class to accommodate 140 students, marking a 20% increase compared to the 2025 admission cycle.

At the event, CMU-Q Dean Michael Trick addressed the attendees and commended them on their acceptance. He emphasized, “Class of 2030, you are part of an elite group. I congratulate each of you for gaining admission to Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar. Your hard work and curiosity have set you apart. Congratulations.”

CMU-Q provides five undergraduate programs: artificial intelligence, biological sciences, business administration, computer science, and information systems. The standards for admission align with those at Carnegie Mellon’s primary campus in Pittsburgh, USA, and the degree requirements are identical. Degrees are conferred by Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

The Marhaba Tartans event allows new admits to dive into academic life at CMU-Q, network with faculty and fellow students, and gain clarity on their chosen programs before making their final commitment.
