A few months ago, a TV show named W5 shared a report called “We’re Not a Cult”, which explored the group Twin Flames Universe. This group, run by Jeff and Shaleia Divine, claims to help people find their “twin flame,” but former members said they felt controlled and pressured in very personal ways—like who to love, how to act, and even big choices about changing gender .

Then, on July 1, 2025, the Michigan Attorney General’s office, along with state police, the U.S. Department of Labor, and local sheriff’s teams, raided two Twin Flames properties in northern Michigan. They used search warrants because they suspect the group broke the law, especially around “coercive control”—which means controlling people in harmful ways .

What’s happening now:

  • The Attorney General Dana Nessel said they’re looking closely into whether the group did anything illegal, like making members do things against their will or taking advantage of their money .

  • They are gathering evidence from documents, messages, and videos found during the search.

  • People who feel they were harmed or have information are asked to contact the AG’s office.

 Why This Matters

  • Checks on power
  • Even if a group calls itself spiritual or helpful, governments step in if its leaders harm people or break rules.
  • Power of investigative journalism
  • Protecting people
  • W5’s report helped bring the issues to light and alerted officials to investigate more closely.
  • When groups pressure members—especially in intimate matters like love or identity—it can hurt people's well-being. Laws exist to protect them.
