Poilievre Criticizes Carney Economic Record In Speech

Post by : Sophia Matthew

Pierre Poilievre strongly criticized the economic performance of Prime Minister Mark Carney during a speech delivered to business leaders at the Canadian Club Toronto. Speaking in Toronto, Poilievre argued that Canada’s economy has weakened over the past year and accused the Liberal government of failing to deliver on key promises.

Addressing an audience of business professionals, Poilievre outlined his vision for the country’s economic future, focusing on reducing taxes and cutting regulations. He emphasized the need for government to step back and allow private businesses to grow, presenting free enterprise as the key driver of economic recovery and prosperity.

Poilievre claimed that Canada has become more expensive to live in and less competitive globally under Carney’s leadership. He pointed to concerns raised by the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, which recently reported an “entrepreneurial drought,” suggesting that more businesses are closing than opening across the country.

The Conservative leader also criticized Carney’s previous role as governor of the Bank of England, arguing that his economic track record raises questions about his leadership. He further accused the prime minister of failing to act quickly on major infrastructure and energy projects, including a proposed oil pipeline in Alberta.

On trade, Poilievre acknowledged that Canada’s exports to the United States could decline due to tariffs introduced by Donald Trump. However, he rejected the idea that relations between the two countries have permanently worsened, pushing back against Carney’s suggestion of a long-term shift in the economic partnership.

The speech reflects growing political debate over Canada’s economic direction, with Poilievre positioning himself as a strong critic of the current government while promoting a market-focused alternative ahead of future elections.
