According to the Shreveport Police Department, the suspect, identified as Shamar Elkins, began the attack before sunrise. He first shot a woman at one residence and then drove to another home, where he carried out the fatal shooting of the children. The victims, aged between 3 and 11 years, included both boys and girls. One child was reportedly found on the roof, believed to have been trying to escape.
Two women, including the suspect’s wife, were critically injured in the attack and are receiving medical treatment. Authorities said the incident appears to be entirely domestic in nature, though the exact motive is still under investigation.
After the shootings, the suspect fled the scene, carjacked a vehicle, and led police on a chase. The pursuit ended when officers opened fire, resulting in his death. Officials confirmed that no law enforcement personnel were injured during the operation.
Investigators revealed that the suspect had a prior arrest related to a firearms case in 2019, but no known history of domestic violence had been reported. Family members indicated that the suspect and his wife were in the process of separating and had ongoing disputes prior to the tragedy.
