DP World has announced a significant investment of US$500,000 aimed at enhancing the Tulsi Chanrai Foundation (TCF) Eye Hospital, located in Abuja, Nigeria. This latest funding increases its total financial commitment to US$1.5 million since the initiative began in 2019.
The collaboration between DP World and TCF is dedicated to combating preventable blindness and ensuring access to top-quality eye care for underprivileged communities throughout Nigeria. This effort is part of TCF’s “Mission for Vision” program, which strives to provide accessible and high-quality eye treatments for all patients.
Situated in Kukwaba, Abuja, the TCF Eye Hospital delivers essential services such as cataract and glaucoma surgeries, pediatric eye care, low vision support, and extensive community outreach programs. The hospital employs a cross-subsidy model, enabling paying patients to support free care for those unable to afford treatment.
Since the partnership launched in 2019, it has had a profound impact, resulting in approximately 60,000 eye surgeries conducted at the Abuja facility, with 63% of these operations offered free of charge. The hospital also extends its outreach efforts within a 100-kilometer radius of Abuja, providing free screenings, transportation, surgeries, medications, and follow-up care.
With the newly acquired funding, the hospital plans to increase its bed capacity from 82 to 160. Future plans also include establishing a training institute to cultivate local eye care professionals and enhance the healthcare framework in Nigeria.
DP World underscores that this initiative demonstrates its dedication to fostering long-term social contributions in the regions where it operates. In Nigeria, the company is additionally involved in logistics and freight services, significantly impacting the local economy.
