Five inmates tragically lost their lives during a violent riot at a high-security prison in Venezuela, officials have reported.
The Ministry of Penitentiary Services revealed that the incident occurred at Yare prison, approximately 70 kilometres from Caracas. The chaos erupted when a scuffle between prisoners escalated into a significant disturbance.
Authorities confirmed that the unrest involved inmates within the maximum-security facility, although details regarding how the fatalities happened or if there were additional injuries were not disclosed.
The ministry announced that the Public Prosecutor's Office has initiated an investigation into this alarming incident. Yet, further updates, including any injured inmates, have not been provided at this time.
