Araujo Steps Away from Barcelona After Illness, Club Grants Private Time

Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo was absent from the squad during Saturday’s 3-1 La Liga home win over Alaves. Manager Hansi Flick cited a “stomach virus” as the reason for his absence.

Araujo’s previous appearance came during Barcelona’s 3-0 Champions League defeat to Chelsea, where he received a second yellow card for a clumsy challenge on Cucurella just before halftime.

According to The Athletic, Barcelona’s sporting director Deco met with Araujo’s agents on Monday, granting the 28-year-old time away from football. The club has expressed full support for Araujo during this period, emphasizing respect for his privacy.

Flick, when asked about the situation, said, “It is a private situation, I don’t want to say more. And please, if you can respect it I would appreciate it.” There was no immediate comment from Barcelona outside normal business hours.

Currently leading the La Liga table, Barcelona will host fourth-placed Atletico Madrid at Camp Nou on Tuesday. The club will be hoping for a strong performance even in Araujo’s absence, as they aim to maintain their lead at the top of the league.
