Yami Gautam: Audience Trust Over Trophies as Haq Approaches

Post by : Mina Carter

Bollywood actor Yami Gautam, praised for performances in films such as Article 370, A Thursday and Bala, said that not having won a Best Actress trophy no longer weighs on her. Though she has earned nominations at ceremonies like Filmfare and IIFA, a top-category victory has eluded her so far.

Looking back on her journey, the actor credited a spiritual outlook for shifting her priorities. "The wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita about detachment has stayed with me," she remarked. "When you stop tying your happiness to success or other people’s approval, you feel lighter. I’ve let go of seeking validation from others."

Since her debut in the 2013 hit Vicky Donor, Yami has curated a body of work that often leans toward roles driven by performance rather than traditional glamour. She has built a reputation for choosing parts that challenge the mainstream narrative.

For Yami, the deepest reward now comes from those who watch and collaborate with her. "The audience’s affection and the fact that filmmakers trust me enough to offer me challenging parts — that means more than any award," she said.

Her next film, Haq, is a legal drama inspired by the landmark Shah Bano case and co-starring Emraan Hashmi. The story follows a Muslim woman seeking justice and maintenance after divorce; the movie, set to release on November 7, is already attracting attention for its topical subject and strong performances.
