Meta has officially unveiled a range of subscription plans across its leading platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, signaling a shift away from its reliance on advertising revenue.

Naomi Gleit, Meta’s Head of Product, shared the news via a video on Instagram, revealing the global rollout of Facebook Plus, Instagram Plus, and WhatsApp Plus, with more options anticipated soon for businesses, content creators, and AI-driven products.

This strategic move comes amidst heightened scrutiny from investors regarding Meta’s substantial investment in AI infrastructure, with projections estimating annual capital expenditures between $125 billion and $145 billion aimed at enhancing AI data centers and technology advancement.

In reaction to the announcement, Meta’s shares increased by nearly three percent.

As per reports, Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus will be priced at $3.99 monthly, while WhatsApp Plus will be offered at $2.99 each month.

The subscription services promise an array of premium features; Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus users will enjoy enhanced analytics, rewatch statistics for stories, broader audience engagement, and customizable profiles.

Conversely, WhatsApp Plus will emphasize personalized features, including exclusive stickers, custom ringtones, and distinctive app themes.

Gleit also mentioned that Meta intends to unify its subscription offerings under a single brand, referred to as “Meta One.”

This is not the first instance of Meta exploring paid services. In 2023, the company launched ad-free subscription options for Facebook and Instagram in Europe, aimed at adhering to EU data privacy laws, allowing users an option between a free ad-supported experience and a paid ad-free alternative.
