Trump Urges Microsoft to Fire Global Affairs President Lisa Monaco

U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly called on Microsoft to fire Lisa Monaco, the company’s global affairs president. Monaco, a former official in both the Obama and Biden administrations, has faced criticism from Trump due to her past government roles.

Trump made the remarks on Friday, posting on his social media platform, Truth Social, that Monaco is “a menace to U.S. National Security, especially given the major contracts that Microsoft has with the United States Government.” He added, “It is my opinion that Microsoft should immediately terminate the employment of Lisa Monaco.”

Lisa Monaco served in key security roles in the Democratic administrations. She was a deputy attorney general under President Joe Biden and also worked as a security aide during President Barack Obama’s term. In addition, Monaco played a central role in coordinating the Justice Department’s response to the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters.

Monaco joined Microsoft in July 2025. She now leads the company’s engagement with governments around the world. Her role involves advising Microsoft on global affairs and managing the company’s interactions with governments.

Trump’s demand comes just one day after the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey. Trump has publicly criticized many officials who worked in Democratic administrations and has suggested that more legal actions against his political opponents are coming. On Friday, he told reporters, “I think there will be others,” though he did not provide a specific list of individuals.

Monaco’s security clearances were revoked earlier in February, and she is currently banned from all federal properties due to what the U.S. government described as “many wrongful acts.” Microsoft declined to comment on Trump’s remarks. Monaco also has not responded publicly.

This request is part of a broader pattern in Trump’s presidency. Since returning to office in January 2025, Trump has used his authority to challenge individuals and organizations he considers politically opposed to him.
