In a significant move to bolster bilateral defence relations, Thailand and Singapore have reiterated their commitment to enhanced security cooperation during a meeting between the defence ministers of both nations in Singapore. The discussions underscored the critical need for greater military collaboration, technology sharing, and fostering regional stability through initiatives led by ASEAN.

Lieutenant General Adul Boonthamcharoen, Thailand’s Minister of Defence, engaged with Singapore’s Defence Minister Chan Chun Sing during his inaugural overseas visit since taking office, reflecting the enduring strategic partnership between the two nations in Southeast Asia.

The ministers evaluated existing defence collaborations and sought new avenues for cooperation across multiple military sectors, placing particular emphasis on joint exercises, professional exchanges, and expertise sharing in contemporary security and defence operations.

Thailand has welcomed Singapore's renewed involvement in the Cobra Gold military exercise, recognized as one of the Asia-Pacific’s largest multinational defence drills. Officials pointed out that maintaining collaboration through such events enhances operational readiness and builds trust among the armed forces.

Further discussions focused on future defence technology collaboration, innovation, and industrial partnerships. Key areas like technology transfer and defence industry collaborations were highlighted as vital for bolstering national security and aligning with long-term strategic goals of both countries.

ASEAN matters and regional security were pivotal topics during the dialogues. Thailand expressed support for Singapore's forthcoming ASEAN Chairmanship in 2027, coinciding with the organization's 60th anniversary. Both nations agree on the necessity of fortifying ASEAN unity and amplifying the bloc's influence in tackling regional and global issues.

The ministers also discussed the imminent Shangri-La Dialogue, a premier global security forum, which Thai officials view as a priceless chance to share perspectives with international defence leaders and gather insights to shape prospective policies. The meeting concluded with a mutual confirmation of dedication to peace, security, and stability across Southeast Asia through enhanced bilateral and regional cooperation.
