RCMP Identify Suspect After Alleged Bestiality Incident Involving Horse Near Vernon, B.C.

Vernon, B.C. RCMP say they have identified a suspect in a disturbing animal-related incident after surveillance footage showed a man entering a rural property and allegedly committing a criminal act involving a horse. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, Jan. 24, when the property owner’s security system alerted her to movement at her horse pen.

The owner watched the footage alongside a responding officer and became shocked by what it showed, describing how the suspect entered the enclosed area and carried out actions that compelled police to classify the case as a criminal offence. Vernon RCMP were called to the scene after the owner reviewed the video and reported what had taken place.

The suspect initially fled the area before police arrived, and an extensive search — including a police dog services team — failed to locate him at the time. Following public attention to the incident and information shared on social media, investigators continued to review tips and video evidence, and have now confirmed they have identified an individual they believe is linked to the act.

RCMP say the investigation remains active and ongoing, and they have thanked the public for the information that helped with identifying the suspect. Police did not immediately say whether any arrests have been made or if charges have been formally laid; updates are expected as the investigation progresses.

The rural property owner — who operates a local equestrian facility — described being “in shock” when she first saw the footage showing the man’s actions in the enclosed animal pen, and urged anyone who recognises the individual or has information to contact the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP. Her focus, and that of police, is on ensuring accountability in what local officials have described as a deeply disturbing event.
