Sehwag Delights in South Indian Cinema Post-Retirement, Calls Mahesh Babu His Favourite

Ex-Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag recently shared his passion for South Indian cinema at an event in Hyderabad. He was present at the launch of the Tollywood Pro League (TPL), a unique initiative blending cricket with the Telugu film world.

During the occasion, Sehwag revealed his admiration for popular actors like Mahesh Babu, Allu Arjun, and Prabhas. “Mahesh Babu is my favorite Telugu star. I also enjoy watching Allu Arjun and Prabhas… I've seen Baahubali multiple times. Now that I'm retired, I have nothing much to do,” he quipped.

Though he loves South Indian films, Sehwag admits to watching them in Hindi, as he doesn't comprehend Tamil or Telugu. He humorously recalled a famous dialogue from Pushpa, “saala jhukega nahi” (I won't back down), and with some assistance from host Nikhil, he recreated it in Telugu.

The TPL event was organized by producer Dil Raju and saw the attendance of cricket legends such as Kapil Dev and Suresh Raina.

Sehwag's comments illustrate his high regard for the leading figures in Telugu cinema. Mahesh Babu recently featured in Guntur Kaaram (2024) and is currently filming SS Rajamouli’s highly anticipated Varanasi alongside Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Allu Arjun gained fame with Pushpa: The Rise (2021) and its sequel Pushpa 2: The Rule (2024), which has achieved unprecedented box office success. He is now working on a new project helmed by Atlee featuring Deepika Padukone. Prabhas, celebrated for Kalki 2898 AD (2024), is set for multiple upcoming projects like The Raja Saab, Spirit, and Fauzi.

Sehwag’s enthusiasm for films showcases a playful and delightful aspect of the cricketer, revealing that life after professional cricket can be enriched through cinema.
