Robbie Williams Raises Alarm Over Vision Problems Linked to Weight Loss Injection

Singer Robbie Williams has taken to social media to share a troubling side effect from his use of the weight loss injection Mounjaro. He disclosed that he has been experiencing blurred vision, which complicates his ability to see fans during live shows.

At 51 years old, Robbie has been utilizing Mounjaro, a tirzepatide injectable primarily used for managing Type 2 diabetes and obesity. While he commended the drug for its benefits to both physical and mental health, calling it a “medical necessity” for his mental well-being, he admitted that the situation with his eyesight has been frustrating. “The emotional relief I feel since starting Mounjaro is remarkable,” he mentioned.

Nonetheless, he acknowledges a decline in his vision, stating that audience members often appear to him as indistinct figures. “During my latest tour, I sing She’s The One to a girl daily, and unbeknownst to her, I can barely see her,” he shared.

His eye prescription has needed adjustments in recent years, which has compelled him to purchase new glasses. Robbie emphasized his desire to raise awareness about the risks: “People should heed my words about potential side effects and do their own due diligence.”

Recent investigations have examined eye-related side effects of weight loss drugs such as semaglutide, the main ingredient in medications like Ozempic and Wegovy. A 2024 study involving around 17,000 participants over six years suggested a possible association between semaglutide and rare eye conditions that might heighten the risk of vision loss, although it did not establish a definitive link.

Experts caution that existing health issues, particularly poorly managed diabetes, prevalent among users of these medications, can also contribute to visual complications. A 2024 study recorded nine cases of vision-related problems among individuals using weight loss injections for Type 2 diabetes, including optic nerve strokes and inflammation, some resulting in lasting vision impairment.

Ophthalmologists highlight the necessity of careful monitoring and preventative care for anyone utilizing weight loss injectables. They advise discussing risks and benefits with a healthcare professional, being vigilant for vision changes like blurriness or dark spots, consulting a doctor prior to discontinuing medications, attending regular eye exams, and exercising caution, especially for those with heart issues or a smoking history.

Robbie Williams’ unapologetic disclosure serves as a crucial reminder to consider the side effects associated with widely-used weight loss therapies and to take precautions for maintaining overall and eye health.
