During the 67th Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Qatar confirmed its support for the reappointment of Daren Tang as Director General.
The delegation was led by Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah, Qatar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva.
On behalf of Qatar, she expressed full endorsement for Daren Tang's second term, commending his effective leadership and the global trust this reflects in his management of WIPO.
Dr. Al Muftah highlighted key accomplishments during Tang's initial term, including the successful adoption of two significant treaties—the Treaty on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources and the Design Law Treaty.
Noting the strengthening ties between Qatar and WIPO, she remarked on the substantial advancements in their strategic partnership, which encompassed Qatar's modernization efforts in its intellectual property framework and participation in new international agreements overseen by WIPO.
Qatar has also established several memoranda of understanding to enhance academic and technical collaborations with the organization.
Reiterating Qatar's commitment, Dr. Al Muftah underscored the nation's backing of WIPO's initiatives aimed at fortifying cooperation and advancing the vital role of intellectual property in driving innovation and achieving Sustainable Development Goals, thereby fostering economic and social benefits for its members.
