Renowned television actress Paridhi Sharma, celebrated for her performances in hit series like Jodha Akbar and Patiala Babes, is poised to make her debut on the big screen next month with Haq. Describing the shift from small screen to cinema as a significant step, Paridhi sees this as a fresh chapter in her 15-year journey in entertainment.
Haq draws inspiration from real-life events in her hometown of Indore, specifically the iconic Shah Bano case of the 1980s. Paridhi reflected, “When I jumped on board, I learned it revolves around the Shah Bano case, which I’d heard about growing up in Indore.”
However, the film is currently facing legal issues, with the daughter of the late Shah Bano Begum sending a legal notice to the filmmakers and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to cease its release. Addressing this controversy, Paridhi remarked, “In a democracy, objections to films inspired by true stories are inevitable. We want audiences to view it first and then form their opinions. We approached the narrative with utmost integrity.”
In her role as Iram, the sister of Emraan Hashmi’s character, Paridhi encapsulates a woman from that era steeped in patriarchy, contrasting the social norms of her time with contemporary views.
Transitioning from television to films was a thoughtful process for Paridhi. After dedicating several years to the small screen, she embarked on a three-and-a-half-year hiatus to prepare for cinematic challenges. “I recognized the need to unlearn old habits and pivot towards film differently. That’s why I trained and undertook workshops before landing this role,” she explained.
On the horizon, Paridhi also disclosed plans to start filming another project in Kashmir, featuring actor Rajeev Khandelwal.
As Haq faces both critical attention and legal scrutiny, audience anticipation builds for Paridhi Sharma’s debut, where she aims to blend her TV experience into a narrative grounded in reality.
