Post by : Mara Collins

Former Indian opener Murali Vijay has extolled the virtues of legendary captain MS Dhoni, describing him as a distinctly exceptional leader whose intuitive decisions transformed Indian cricket. He reminisced about how Dhoni placed his faith in Joginder Sharma for the final over during the 2007 T20 World Cup—a choice that was initially met with skepticism but ultimately became a milestone in cricket history. Vijay noted that Dhoni possesses attributes that are irreplicable, emphasizing his rare mental resilience and unmatched ability to hit sixes.

Vijay, who donned the Chennai Super Kings jersey for eight seasons under Dhoni's stewardship, asserted that the former captain's influence on various careers is profound. Dhoni, who now participates exclusively in the IPL, has been retained by the Chennai Super Kings for the upcoming IPL 2026 season. Vijay highlighted that Dhoni's capacity to thrive in high-pressure scenarios and his fearless demeanor established him as one of India's most emblematic leaders. He also remarked on Dhoni's prowess in six-hitting, noting that few right-handed players could rival his strength.

In a recent interview with Taruwar Kohli on YouTube, Vijay expressed his admiration for Dhoni's strategic mindset and keen game sense. He mentioned that the team should take pride in having a captain like Dhoni, who consistently delivered surprising and innovative plays. Additionally, he acknowledged Dhoni’s composed nature on the field and the significant impact he had on both Indian cricket and the IPL as a player and leader.

Murali Vijay commenced his international career in 2008, participating in 87 matches for India and amassing 4,490 runs, including 12 centuries. He hung up his international boots in 2023 and concluded his IPL career in 2020. Vijay's journey included notable Test performances, particularly overseas, yet he regards playing under Dhoni as one of the paramount experiences of his life.
