Iran Reviews U.S. Peace Proposal Amid Criticism

Post by : Sophia Matthew

Iran said it is reviewing a new peace proposal from the United States aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, though senior Iranian officials have expressed strong doubts about the plan. The proposal has become the center of growing international attention as diplomatic efforts continue to prevent further escalation in the region.

According to reports, the United States presented Iran with a one-page memorandum designed to create a framework for ending hostilities and opening broader negotiations between both countries. The proposed agreement reportedly includes discussions about easing sanctions, reducing military tensions, reopening shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz, and placing some limits on Iran’s nuclear activities.

U.S. President Donald Trump said recent talks with Iranian representatives had shown signs of progress and suggested that a deal could be reached soon. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said discussions over the last 24 hours had been “very good” and expressed confidence that the conflict could end quickly if negotiations continue successfully.

However, reactions inside Iran have remained cautious and divided. Iranian lawmaker Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for Iran’s parliamentary foreign policy and national security committee, criticized details of the proposal and described it as “more of an American wish-list than a reality.” He argued that the United States was demanding conditions it had failed to secure through previous negotiations.

Iranian officials also stated that several important issues remain unresolved, including Tehran’s nuclear program and broader regional security concerns. Reports suggested that the current proposal does not fully address all U.S. demands, particularly those related to Iran suspending nuclear enrichment and reopening unrestricted transit through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the biggest issues in the negotiations. The strategic waterway is considered one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes, and tensions in the area have raised fears about global energy supplies and economic stability. Oil prices reportedly declined after news emerged that both sides were discussing possible peace terms.

Diplomatic sources said mediators, including Pakistan, have played an important role in carrying messages between Washington and Tehran during recent discussions. Iran is expected to deliver its official response through diplomatic channels in the coming days.

Despite signs of possible progress, analysts say major differences continue to separate the two sides. Iran has repeatedly insisted that any agreement must protect its sovereignty and national interests, while the United States continues pushing for stronger restrictions related to nuclear activities and regional security. Experts believe negotiations could still face delays or setbacks before any final agreement is reached.

The situation continues to be closely watched by governments and financial markets around the world as hopes for a diplomatic solution remain uncertain. International leaders have continued calling for restraint, dialogue, and efforts to avoid a wider regional conflict.
