A significant fire erupted within a multi-level parking garage at BYD’s manufacturing site in Shenzhen, resulting in a substantial emergency response and producing thick clouds of black smoke that loomed over the industrial area.
Fire Engulfs Parking Garage
The blaze took place in the Ma Luan subdistrict of Pingshan, as a sophisticated parking facility was consumed by flames. Eyewitness footage circulated online showed the fire rapidly advancing up different levels of the garage, with dense smoke visible from a distance.
Emergency personnel, including firefighters and police, arrived swiftly to combat the flames and successfully brought the situation under control; thankfully, there were no casualties reported.
Stored Vehicles Were Not for Sale
Officials indicated that the facility was designated solely for the storage of test, experimental, and decommissioned vehicles. BYD ensured that no vehicles destined for customers or active manufacturing were affected.
The company reaffirmed that its main production lines at the Pingshan location are operating normally, with no interruptions to manufacturing or shipping.
Investigation Launched
According to early reports from local media, the fire may have been sparked by improper external construction activities taking place near the garage. So far, investigators have ruled out any faults related to batteries in mass-produced cars.
Authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation to pinpoint the exact cause of the fire and evaluate the damages incurred.
Operational Stability Maintained
In spite of this incident, BYD's overall operations remain stable. The automaker is actively enhancing its infrastructure, including the recent deployment of numerous fast-charging stations throughout China, as it consolidates its position in the global electric vehicle arena.
