Authorities have lifted evacuation and shelter-in-place orders at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne after a reported security threat near Gate 1 was cleared. Officials confirmed that there is no longer any active danger, although response teams remain on-site as a precaution.
The incident began early Thursday morning when a suspicious package was reported near the base’s main entrance. The alert triggered a large-scale emergency response involving multiple agencies, including the Cheyenne Police Department, the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
As a safety measure, authorities established a wide security perimeter around the area and ordered personnel in several buildings to shelter in place. The base’s Child Development Center evacuated children to a secure location, while nearby residents were temporarily asked to leave their homes. Officials emphasized that these steps were precautionary and aimed at ensuring public safety.
The situation also caused major traffic disruptions. A section of Interstate 25 was closed for more than an hour, and several surrounding roads were blocked while emergency teams investigated the package. Visitors to the base were redirected to alternate entry points during the operation.
By late morning, authorities confirmed that the package did not pose a threat. Evacuation orders were lifted, roads were reopened, and normal operations gradually resumed. However, Gate 1 remains closed for the time being as officials continue their investigation.
The incident highlights the strict security protocols followed at military installations, where even potential threats are treated with the highest level of caution to protect personnel and surrounding communities.
