Charlie Kirk, a 31-year-old right-wing activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA, was shot dead on Wednesday while speaking at Utah Valley University. The FBI and other law enforcement agencies are now asking the public to help find the shooter.

Authorities said the shooter fired one bullet from a rooftop about 200 yards away. The bullet hit Kirk in the neck. Police released images of a man they want to question. He was wearing a black baseball cap, sunglasses, Converse shoes, jeans, and a long-sleeved top with an American flag design.

Public Urged to Help

Utah Governor Spencer Cox said, “We cannot do our job without the public’s help.” Officials said they have already received over 7,000 tips. He asked anyone with videos or photos of the incident to share them with the authorities. FBI Director Kash Patel was present during the briefing, but no questions were taken from the media.

How the Shooter Escaped

A video shown at the press briefing shows a person running across the roof, jumping to the ground, and heading toward some trees. Police found a high-powered bolt-action rifle at that spot. No arrests have been made yet.

National Reactions and Emotional Impact

The killing has shocked the country. Charlie Kirk’s coffin was flown to Phoenix, Arizona, on Vice President JD Vance’s official plane. Footage showed Vance holding the casket, while Kirk’s widow, Erika, held hands with Vance’s wife.

Right-wing media and social media reacted strongly. Some called it “war,” while others urged calm. Former President Donald Trump told reporters that Kirk had always been an advocate of nonviolence and asked his supporters to respond peacefully.

Who Was Charlie Kirk?

Kirk was a major figure in American conservative politics. He co-founded Turning Point USA in 2012 to promote conservative ideas among young people. He supported gun rights, outspoken Christianity, and strict immigration policies.

Kirk was very active on social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. He shared videos of his speeches and debates at colleges across the country, reaching millions of followers. Supporters call him a “martyr” for conservative ideals because of his influence and work.

Students Speak About the Tragedy

Students at Utah Valley University expressed shock and fear. Dave Sanchez, a 26-year-old student, said, “It felt like one of my own family members was killed. Watching it made me sick to my stomach.” Many students said they were worried about rising political tensions in the country.

Political Violence in the US

Kirk’s death is part of a larger pattern of political violence in the United States. Three months ago, a man in Minnesota shot a Democratic lawmaker and her husband. In July 2024, Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt.

Experts say these events show how deep political divisions can turn dangerous if left unchecked.

Moving Forward

Authorities hope that tips from the public will help them quickly find the shooter and prevent further violence. This incident also highlights the need for security at public gatherings, including universities, rallies, and events.

Charlie Kirk’s death is a reminder that violence harms society and democracy. Leaders, citizens, and media must focus on peaceful discussion and protecting everyone’s safety.
