El Jardinero Arrested In Major Mexico Cartel Crackdown

Mexican security forces have arrested a senior leader of the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel in a major operation that marks a significant breakthrough in the country’s fight against organized crime. Authorities confirmed that Audias Flores Silva, also known as “El Jardinero,” was captured without any gunfire during a carefully planned military mission.

The operation took place in the western state of Nayarit, where Mexican special forces located Flores after months of surveillance. According to officials, the mission involved more than 500 troops, supported by helicopters and aircraft. Despite heavy protection around the suspect, security forces were able to detain him peacefully.

The Secretariat of the Navy said Flores was found hiding in a drainage ditch after his armed guards attempted to create a diversion and flee. Authorities described the operation as highly precise, noting that it was completed “without a single shot being fired,” highlighting the level of coordination involved.

Flores was considered a key figure within the cartel, controlling major drug production and trafficking routes along Mexico’s Pacific coast. He was also seen as a possible successor to cartel leader Nemesio Oseguera. His arrest is expected to weaken the cartel’s operational network, especially its links to international drug distribution.

Mexican Security Secretary Omar Garcia Harfuch confirmed that Flores was wanted both in Mexico and by authorities in the United States, where a reward of $5 million had been offered for his capture. Officials said he may face extradition proceedings in the future.

In a related development, authorities also arrested Flores’s financial operator, identified as Cesar Alejandro “El Guero Conta,” in a separate operation. He is accused of laundering money through businesses, acquiring luxury assets, and investing in industries such as tequila production to hide illegal profits.

The arrest comes at a sensitive time for Mexico’s security policy. President Claudia Sheinbaum recently raised concerns about unauthorized foreign involvement in anti-drug operations, stressing that cooperation with international partners must respect national sovereignty.

Overall, the capture of “El Jardinero” represents a major success for Mexican authorities and sends a strong message in the ongoing effort to dismantle powerful criminal organizations operating across the country.
