Diljit Dosanjh Faces Threats but Promotes Peace During World Tour

Post by : Mina Carter

Punjabi icon Diljit Dosanjh is currently facing threats from Khalistani extremists following events at his global concerts.

Concerts Amidst Controversy

Reports suggest that during his show in Perth, pro-Khalistan slogans were voiced, coinciding with a warning from US-based Khalistani figure Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. His next performance in Auckland, New Zealand, is also believed to be a target, with supporters threatening disruptions.

In spite of these challenges, Diljit has demonstrated remarkable calmness while connecting with his audience. He expressed gratitude to fans in Adelaide through a social media post, encouraging them to remain serene and concentrate on positivity rather than external fears.

Context of the Threats

Threats emerged following Diljit's notable appearance on Kaun Banega Crorepati 17, where he bowed to Amitabh Bachchan—a gesture that sparked backlash from Khalistani supporters. Pannun, alongside his proscribed organization, Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), released a video denouncing the singer, positioning that he disrespected the victims of the 1984 Sikh genocide.

Pannun commented, "By showing reverence to Bachchan, the individual behind the genocide narrative, Diljit Dosanjh has disrespected every victim, widow, and orphan of the 1984 Sikh Genocide."

The SFJ is banned in India under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act due to its separatist activities. The Ministry of Home Affairs has classified it as part of efforts to undermine India's sovereignty.

Diljit’s Message

Diljit clarified that his presence on KBC was solely to bring attention and resources to victims of floods in Punjab and not meant to promote any film. Addressing his fans at the Brisbane concert, he conveyed a message of unity:

"Always speak about love. This earth is united. My Guru teaches, 'Ik Onkar.' My feelings are filled with love for everyone, even if jealousy or trolling arises. I will consistently promote love."

He emphasized focusing on one’s own actions and hearts while leaving the consequences to a higher power, reiterating his commitment to positivity and compassion.
