Ranveer Singh’s latest film, Dhurandhar, has made a remarkable debut at the global box office, achieving his best opening to date. The spy thriller surprised industry analysts by surpassing expectations with its impressive figures. Domestically, it raked in ₹27 crore net and ₹32.40 crore gross within its first day, exceeding initial predictions of ₹18–20 crore. Strong word of mouth propelled the film past the ₹25 crore mark by day's end, although there were some unverified claims regarding figures being inflated through block bookings, which remain unconfirmed by officials.
On the international front, Dhurandhar also excelled, accumulating $850,000 on its release date. This pushed its total worldwide collection to ₹40 crore on Day 1. The film is projected to surpass ₹100 crore by Sunday, with the potential to achieve this milestone even sooner if current trends persist. This robust beginning sets a solid foundation for the film's extended theatrical success.
With this achievement, Dhurandhar has officially surpassed Ranveer Singh’s previous record-holder, Padmaavat, which garnered over ₹37 crore on its first day back in 2018. It also outperformed other notable releases, such as Saiyaara, which made ₹29.40 crore on its debut. However, it fell short of the opening day earnings seen by Chhaava, which managed ₹47.40 crore.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar is a spy thriller set against the backdrop of Pakistan in the early 2000s. The storyline follows Ranveer as an Indian agent tasked with dismantling notorious Lyari gangs, drawing inspiration from real events. The film boasts a robust supporting cast, including Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, and R. Madhavan. With a favorable audience reception and rapid growth in overseas markets, expectations are high for continued success through the weekend.
