The 52nd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, held on Friday, celebrated excellence in daytime television, honoring performers, hosts, and shows that have left a mark on the genre. General Hospital emerged as the night’s biggest winner, taking home six major awards, including Outstanding Drama Series.

Lead Acting Honors

Paul Telfer won Outstanding Lead Actor for his portrayal of Xander Kiriakis on Days of Our Lives. The 45-year-old Scottish actor, who joined the series in 2015, dedicated his win to his late mother. “My mom always loved soaps and she loved villains,” Telfer said. “She's been gone for over 20 years, and so to win this on a soap opera playing the villain is really amazing. Thanks, Mom.”

Nancy Lee Grahn earned Outstanding Lead Actress, marking her third career Daytime Emmy. She has portrayed Alexis Davis on General Hospital since 1996. Grahn used her acceptance speech to highlight political engagement and civic responsibility, holding a silver clutch inscribed with “Democracy dies in silence.” She urged the audience to “show up, stand up, speak up for human decency, for democracy,” repeating “Stand up!” several times.

Historic Achievement by David Attenborough

Sir David Attenborough, 99, became the oldest Daytime Emmy winner, breaking Dick Van Dyke’s previous record of 98. Attenborough was awarded for his work as host of Secret Lives of Orangutans, in the category of Daytime Personality, Non-Daily. He was unable to attend the ceremony, but his achievement reflects a distinguished career spanning eight decades as a writer, host, and narrator.

General Hospital Dominates

General Hospital led the evening’s major categories, winning six awards, including Outstanding Daytime Drama Series. The soap has been a staple of daytime programming for decades and continues to receive recognition for both its acting and storytelling. Grahn’s win contributed to the show’s strong presence, alongside other cast and crew accolades.
