Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has sharply criticized Mohamed Salah following the forward’s explosive remarks about Reds manager Arne Slot, describing the outburst as “a disgrace.”
Salah, frustrated at being left out of the starting lineup for Saturday’s 3-3 draw at Leeds, said he felt “thrown under a bus” and claimed he had no relationship with Slot. This marked the third consecutive game in which the Egyptian star was benched amid a dip in form.
In response, Liverpool have dropped the 33-year-old from the squad for Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Inter Milan, signaling the club’s disapproval of his comments.
Speaking about the incident, Carragher, a former Champions League winner with Liverpool, stated: “I thought it was a disgrace what he did after the game. Some people call it an emotional outburst, but I don’t see it that way. When Salah stops in a mixed zone, it’s often coordinated with his agent to maximize impact. He chose a moment when the club was struggling to make a statement against the manager, possibly to force change.”
Salah has been instrumental for Liverpool, winning two Premier League titles and the Champions League during his eight-year stint. Despite signing a contract extension in April, the forward hinted he could be playing his final game for the club as he heads to the African Cup of Nations after Liverpool’s Premier League match with Brighton.
The 33-year-old has been linked with a lucrative move to the Saudi Pro League. On this, Carragher added: “The club made the right decision in not allowing him to go abroad. Whether he will play for Liverpool again is uncertain. He is one of the greatest players in the club’s history, but if this behavior continues, his future here could be in doubt.”
Salah’s comments and subsequent exclusion from the squad have raised serious questions about his future at Liverpool as the club faces a tense period on and off the field.
