The Government of Canada is creating up to 6,000 more summer jobs for young people. This is to help build a stronger economy and give youth good work opportunities. These summer jobs give young people their first work experience. This experience can help them decide on their future education, training, and career.
Originally, Canada planned to create 70,000 summer jobs for youth in 2025. But Patty Hajdu, the Minister of Jobs and Families, announced there will be up to 6,000 extra jobs available. This means even more young Canadians will get the chance to work this summer. The goal is to help Canada have the strongest economy among the G7 countries.
The Minister made this announcement during a visit to Wataynikaneyap Power’s office on Fort William First Nation in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Wataynikaneyap Power is leading a project to bring electricity to 17 remote communities that now use diesel power. This project is a partnership of 24 First Nations working together. Thanks to the Canada Summer Jobs program, they have already hired an electrical engineering technologist.
The hiring for Canada Summer Jobs 2025 is happening now across the country. Young people aged 15 to 30 can find summer job opportunities until July 21, 2025. They can look for jobs on the Job Bank website or mobile app. Youth can apply for jobs in many areas, like recreation, food service, marketing, and tourism. There are also jobs in growing fields such as housing construction and environmental protection.
This program is a great way for young people to gain work experience, earn money, and learn new skills. It also helps communities and businesses grow stronger.
