Israel carried out strong airstrikes on central Beirut early Wednesday, killing at least six people and injuring many others. The attacks are part of the growing conflict between Israel Defense Forces and the Iran-backed group Hezbollah. The Israeli military said it is targeting Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon while also hitting key locations in the capital.
According to Lebanon’s official news agency, the strikes hit crowded residential areas in central Beirut, including the Zuqaq al-Blat and Basta neighborhoods. These areas are close to government buildings and embassies, making the situation more serious. Witnesses said the explosions caused heavy damage to apartments, with some buildings partly destroyed. Rescue teams rushed to the scene to help the injured and search for survivors.
Lebanon’s health ministry confirmed that at least six people were killed and 24 others were wounded in the attacks. Officials also said that some victims could not be identified immediately due to the severity of the damage, and DNA tests may be needed. The strikes came without warning, which increased the risk for civilians living in these busy areas.
Later, the Israeli military issued evacuation warnings for parts of Beirut, including the Bashoura area. Soon after, another strike hit a building in that المنطقة, sending thick smoke into the air. Residents reported panic as loud blasts and gunfire woke people during the early morning hours.
At the same time, Israeli forces continued attacks in southern Lebanon, especially near the city of Tyre. Many families have already fled their homes due to ongoing violence, while thousands of others remain in shelters. Local officials said fear is growing as more strikes are expected.
The conflict began to intensify after Hezbollah launched rockets toward Israel earlier this month. Since then, both sides have exchanged attacks, leading to rising casualties and large-scale displacement. Lebanese authorities say that over 900 people have been killed since March 2, and more than one million people have been forced to leave their homes.
The situation remains tense as both sides continue military actions. With no clear end in sight, civilians in Lebanon are facing increasing danger and uncertainty each day.
