Tkachuk Strikes in OT as Senators Edge Jets 3-2 Thriller

Post by : Mina Carter

Brady Tkachuk played the hero in overtime, firing home the winner just over two minutes into the extra frame to hand the Ottawa Senators a thrilling 3-2 victory against the Winnipeg Jets on Monday night.

The decisive goal came after Tim Stützle, enjoying a three-assist performance, spotted Tkachuk in space and fed him a perfect cross-ice pass that was hammered past Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck at Canada Life Centre.

Ottawa (15-13-1) also got goals from Nick Cousins and Jake Sanderson, while Linus Ullmark delivered a steady performance in net with 23 saves. Winnipeg (15-15-2) replied through defencemen Neal Pionk and Logan Stanley, and Hellebuyck finished with 28 stops in his second outing since returning from injury.

After a quiet, scoreless opening period, the game opened up in the second. Cousins broke the deadlock with a sharp wrist shot before Pionk answered with a powerful blast from the point. Stanley then pushed the Jets ahead with his sixth goal of the season, marking a personal milestone.

The Senators forced overtime late in the third when Sanderson’s shot took a fortunate deflection and slipped into the net. Ottawa then completed the comeback in overtime, ending the Jets’ hopes of snapping their recent inconsistency.

Winnipeg will look to bounce back on Wednesday when they face the St. Louis Blues, while Ottawa takes confidence from a hard-fought road win.
