British Social Media Star Big John Fisher Detained in Australia

Post by : Mina Carter

British social media personality “Big John” Fisher, known for his viral fast food reviews and signature catchphrase “bosh”, has been detained in Australia over a visa issue. Fisher, celebrated for his humorous online content and love of Chinese takeaway, arrived in Western Australia on Tuesday for a planned tour across the country.

However, he announced via social media that he would have to cancel scheduled appearances in Perth and Sydney as he is set to be deported back to London.

Visa Dispute Leads to Detention

Fisher revealed he was questioned by Australian border officials for four hours. While he maintained that his visa was legitimate, authorities reportedly raised concerns that he intended to work during his visit, suggesting he entered the country on the incorrect visa type.

A spokesperson for the Australian Border Force stated that they cannot comment on individual cases due to privacy laws.

Sharing his disappointment online, Fisher said:

“Will explain more when I get home, but absolutely gutted. Sorry, Perth, sorry, Sydney.”

On Wednesday morning, Fisher also mentioned spending his 52nd birthday in a detention hotel while awaiting deportation. Despite the setback, he remained upbeat:

“I’m still smiling and I still love Australia. Bosh.”

Family and Fans Respond

Fisher’s son, British heavyweight boxer Johnny Fisher, confirmed that his father would be flown back to the UK. Making a lighthearted remark, he joked:

“Rumor has it they are frightened of his express pace bowling ahead of the Ashes.”

Fans have shown widespread support on social media, though Fisher requested they avoid sending food, as it is not permitted in detention facilities. He suggested donations be made to food banks instead:

“Thank you for the gesture, but if you have got me food, please take it to a food bank - Bosh.”

Planned Tour and Online Presence

Fisher had previously visited Australia and was scheduled to attend four events this week. His planned appearances included:

  • Hosting a “Bucking Bull” challenge at a greyhound racing event in Sydney

  • Performing a DJ set at a horse racing meet in Perth

With nearly 700,000 Instagram followers and over 500,000 TikTok followers, Fisher is known for filming himself enjoying meals and offering short, entertaining reviews, often ending with his trademark word “bosh”.

Recently, he showed support for a Chinese takeaway in York that had faced vandalism, sharing a review online and highlighting the restaurant’s food.

Despite Setback, Popularity Endures

Despite the unexpected visa setback, Fisher continues to be a beloved figure online, with fans expressing solidarity during his detention. His humor, positivity, and signature “bosh” continue to endear him to audiences worldwide, ensuring his online influence remains strong even in challenging situations.
