Akhanda 2 Release Postponed Indefinitely Amid Legal Hurdles

Nandamuri Balakrishna’s much-anticipated Telugu film Akhanda 2 has been indefinitely postponed, just before its scheduled worldwide release on December 5. The production house, 14 Reels Plus, cited unavoidable circumstances and ongoing legal proceedings as reasons for the sudden delay, leaving fans and industry members disappointed.

The film, featuring Samyuktha and Harshaali Malhotra in key roles, had planned paid premieres on December 4, but these were cancelled amid confusion over ticket bookings, particularly in the Nizam region. Overseas Key Delivery Messages (KDMs), required for digital screenings, were also not cleared, causing further disruption in distribution plans.

In a statement, 14 Reels Plus said:
"With a heavy heart, we regret to inform you that #Akhanda2 will not be releasing as scheduled due to unavoidable circumstances. This is a painful moment for us, and we truly understand the disappointment it brings to every fan and movie lover awaiting the film. We are working tirelessly to resolve the matter at the earliest. Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused. Your support means the world to us. We promise to share a positive update very soon."

In Tamil Nadu, the release faced a legal hurdle when the Madras High Court issued an injunction in favor of Eros International Media Limited, preventing the film’s release, distribution, or commercial exploitation. The court’s decision arose from a long-standing arbitral dispute involving 14 Reels Entertainment Private Limited, amounting to approximately Rs 28 crore. Eros argued that the planned release under 14 Reels Plus LLP was an attempt to bypass compliance with the arbitral award.

Financial complications reportedly contributed to the sudden postponement. While such issues are not uncommon in Telugu cinema, the abrupt delay of a major project like Akhanda 2 has left fans eagerly awaiting a new release date.
