Bollywood icon Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is celebrating her 52nd birthday today (1 November). Known for her stunning beauty, grace, and versatile acting, Aishwarya continues to be one of India’s most admired public figures. Married to actor Abhishek Bachchan and mother to Aaradhya, she balances family life with her career while staying largely away from social media.
However, on her special day, a 1999 interview with the actor has resurfaced online, sparking conversations among fans. Featured on Anuradha Prasad’s talk show Let’s Talk, the interview highlights Aishwarya’s views on love and the qualities she wanted in her future partner.
Aishwarya on Love and Her Ideal Life Partner
Aishwarya admitted she wasn’t into the idea of a spouse who only looked “drop-dead gorgeous.” Instead, she hoped for qualities like sensitivity, honesty, faith, a sense of humor, and someone who was a “people’s person.” She expressed her wish for a relationship that was not about ‘falling in love’ but ‘rising in love.’
She explained,
“Like all girls, or probably human beings, I want a certain degree of sensitivity, faith, honesty, and a sense of humor in my spouse… I hope whoever meets me eventually doesn’t have a preconceived idea of me based on what they see on screen.”
When asked if she had ever been in love, Aishwarya replied,
“No, but I hope to rise in love. Love is a very beautiful emotion, but you’ve got to give as much as you take from it.”
Fans React: ‘She Described Abhishek’
Fans have reacted emotionally to the resurfaced clip, pointing out how Abhishek Bachchan fits the description she mentioned years before they married. Comments like “AB ticks all her boxes” and “She ended up with exactly what she wanted” flooded social platforms, with many calling the couple’s love story “meant to be.”
Aishwarya and Abhishek’s Journey
Aishwarya and Abhishek’s bond began on the film sets of Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke (2000) and Kuch Naa Kaho (2003). Their connection deepened during Guru (2007). Abhishek proposed to Aishwarya after the film’s premiere in New York. They tied the knot on 20 April 2007 in a private ceremony at the Bachchan residence in Mumbai.
The couple has remained low-key about their personal life, choosing privacy over social media presence. They are parents to daughter Aaradhya Bachchan.
Aishwarya’s last on-screen performance was in Mani Ratnam’s historical drama Ponniyin Selvan II, which grossed over ₹344 crore worldwide. Her portrayal received wide appreciation, including praise from Abhishek Bachchan, who called it her “best performance so far.”
