CMU-Q Commends 106 Graduates in Class of 2026 Ceremony

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, affiliated with Qatar Foundation, recently held a graduation ceremony for its Class of 2026, celebrating the success of 106 students from various academic disciplines.

The graduates earned degrees in fields such as Biological Sciences, Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, and General Studies.

Dean Michael Trick congratulated the students on their accomplishments, highlighting their perseverance and hard work throughout their educational journey. He noted how they managed academic commitments despite the challenges posed by global events during their university experience, stating it filled the university community with pride.

Farnam Jahanian also spoke to the graduates on behalf of the broader Carnegie Mellon community, commending their strength and dedication amidst uncertainty and geopolitical tensions. He emphasized their ability to support one another with empathy while staying focused on their studies.

Representing their peers, Noora Al Kuwari and Zeina Mahmoud shared their reflections on a transformative four-year experience at CMU-Q, expressing gratitude to the university and faculty for their support in overcoming challenges and fostering personal and professional growth.

The ceremony also recognized outstanding contributions from students and faculty members.

The awards for Outstanding Academic Achievement went to:

  • Zhansaya Matkenova for Biological Sciences
  • Omar Hatem Ali Khalaf for Business Administration
  • Zeina Rami Halawa for Computer Science
  • Fatou Sokhna Gueye for Information Systems

Additionally, four Qatar Campus Scholars were honored for their academic and leadership excellence:

  • Gana Elnajjar
  • Phat Hung Diep
  • Zeina Rami Halawa
  • Fatou Sokhna Gueye

Zeina Rami Halawa and Fatou Sokhna Gueye were also recognized as Andrew Carnegie Society Scholars.

Furthermore, Dr. Varun Sharma was awarded the Meritorious Teaching Award for his exceptional contributions to education.

With the graduation of the Class of 2026, CMU-Q now boasts a diverse alumni network of over 1,500 graduates, contributing to innovation and advancement in Qatar and globally.
