In 2025, the Zayed Authority for People of Determination has made significant strides in empowering individuals with disabilities throughout the UAE. Focused on enhancing their quality of life, the Authority's initiatives span crucial areas of education, healthcare, sports, employment, and social acceptance.
A standout accomplishment of this year includes receiving the prestigious Zero Project Global Award 2026 for the initiative titled, “Issuing Parking Permits for People of Determination.” This innovative digital platform allows users to easily apply for and swiftly receive permits through streamlined online processing, enhancing the independence of PoD.
The Authority transitioned under the umbrella of Abu Dhabi’s social sector through the Department of Community Development. This restructuring has fortified collaboration and sped up efforts towards inclusive growth for PoD. The launch of its ambitious 2026 Strategy, named Nebrasna, revolves around empowerment, inclusion, digital innovation, and sustainable community development, accompanied by initiatives to foster employee engagement.
On a global scale, the Authority represented the UAE at the UN's 18th Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (COSP18) in New York. Additionally, it joined the Second Global Social Development Summit in Doha, forging partnerships with organizations like the International Disability Alliance and the China Disabled Persons’ Federation.
The ongoing “Bridges of Hope” initiative with Egypt has also driven forward rehabilitation services, including speech therapy and family support. The Authority’s collaboration with the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity in Abu Dhabi aims to promote human fraternity globally in tandem with World Braille Day.
2025 also saw the rollout of several new projects, like the Early Intervention – Together We Begin program, which targets developmental screening for young children. Initiatives such as the “We Read” Learning Lab cater specifically to PoD, including individuals with cerebral palsy, enabling them to undertake digital transactions and access a wealth of educational materials.
Furthermore, the Authority has made great strides in vocational training. A notable competition saw 137 students participate, and nine individuals with disabilities earned professional certification as baristas under the Specialty Coffee Association Level 1 program. Collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education has also paved the way for national accreditation in vocational training.
Under the leadership of H.H. Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Third International Conference on Advances in Autism Research attracted over 500 experts. The Authority has also introduced specialized training in psychomotor therapy and creative programs like “Gifted Determination,” encouraging artistic avenues like poetry for PoD.
Other pioneering initiatives include a professional diploma for parents, partnerships with sports organizations, an AI-driven robot for PoD card issuance, and enhanced mobility services through Q-Mobility.
Through these comprehensive measures, the Zayed Authority for People of Determination plays a pivotal role in fostering independence and societal inclusion, aligning with the UAE's vision of a diverse and sustainable community.
