Ukrainian Strike On College In Russian-Occupied Town Kills 18 Officials

At least 18 people were killed after a strike hit a college dormitory in the Russian-occupied town of Starobilsk in eastern Ukraine, according to Russian-installed officials in the region. The attack reportedly targeted a teacher training college building that was being used as a student dormitory in the occupied Luhansk region. Officials also said more than 40 people were injured, while rescue teams continued search operations under the damaged building.

Russian authorities blamed Ukraine for the attack and claimed several drones were used during the overnight strike. According to local officials, many of the victims were young women staying inside the dormitory at the time of the explosion. Emergency workers rushed to the area to remove debris and rescue survivors trapped under the collapsed structure. Images shared by Russian media showed severe damage to the building, broken walls, and rescue crews working through the rubble.

Ukraine denied intentionally targeting civilians and rejected the accusations made by Russia. Ukrainian officials said their forces had targeted a Russian drone command unit operating in the area and insisted that Ukraine follows international law during military operations. Kyiv also questioned Russian claims about the exact nature of the building and the number of casualties reported.

The strike has sharply increased tensions between both sides as the war continues to intensify. Following the incident, Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly ordered military officials to prepare retaliation options against Ukraine. Soon after, Russia launched one of its largest missile and drone attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, causing more deaths and widespread damage.

The United Nations condemned attacks on civilians during the conflict and called for all sides to follow international humanitarian law. However, independent verification of the events in the occupied region remains difficult because journalists and international observers have limited access to the area controlled by Russian forces.

The war between Russia and Ukraine has continued to bring heavy destruction to cities and towns on both sides of the front line. Drone and missile attacks have become more frequent in recent months, with both countries accusing each other of targeting civilian areas and infrastructure. Security experts believe the latest incident could lead to another major escalation in the conflict at a time when international peace efforts remain stalled.
