An Indian restaurant in Northampton, England, has been left shocked and upset after a group of men enjoyed a large meal and ran away without paying. The incident happened on August 4 at the popular Saffron restaurant and has caused anger both in the local community and online.

Security camera footage, later shared by the restaurant on Facebook, shows the men arriving at around 10:15 p.m. They placed their orders and were served a range of dishes, including curries and lamb chops. According to the bill, the group consumed food worth £197.30 — which is about ₹23,000 in Indian currency.

The Sudden Escape

In another video, the men can be seen leaving their table and running out of the door. A waiter quickly followed them, but they managed to get away. The restaurant called the act not only theft but also a direct attack on small businesses that work hard to serve their customers.

“This kind of behaviour isn’t just about not paying,” the restaurant wrote in its social media post. “It affects hardworking people and our whole community.”

Restaurant Appeals for Help

The restaurant has reported the case to Northamptonshire Police and handed over the CCTV footage. In their appeal, the owners asked other local businesses to stay alert and help identify the suspects.

“If you recognise these men or have any information, please contact us or the police,” the post continued. “We must hold these people responsible. There’s no place for this in our community. Let’s protect each other.”

Police Investigation

Northamptonshire Police confirmed they are investigating the matter as a theft. They have urged anyone with information to contact them by calling 101.

Public Reaction

The incident has sparked strong reactions on social media. Many people expressed anger, saying the men’s behaviour was shameful and unfair to small businesses.

“If you can’t afford it, eat at home!” one person commented. Another said, “This is why you should take payment before they even sit down.”

Some users also called for the suspects to be “named and shamed” to discourage others from doing the same. Others simply called it “disgusting” and “disgraceful” behaviour.

Impact on Small Businesses

Incidents like this can hurt restaurants badly, especially small family-owned ones. They not only lose money from the unpaid bill but also face emotional stress and damage to trust. Many restaurants may now consider taking deposits or payments before serving large orders to avoid similar situations.

For now, the community is waiting for the police investigation to bring results — and for justice to be served against those responsible for this act.
