The United Arab Emirates has broadened its recall of a Nestlé infant formula, S26 AR GOLD, as part of a voluntary precautionary action due to bacterial contamination fears.
The Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) reported that the concerned product is generally administered under medical guidance. The recall includes specific batches: 5185080661, 5271080661, and 5125080661.
EDE explained that the recall was prompted by the discovery of Bacillus cereus in production inputs. This bacterium is known to generate the cereulide toxin, which can cause foodborne illness with symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
The authority indicated that all affected batches in distribution warehouses have been secured, and measures are underway to clear any remaining products from both online and physical retail locations.
In response, Nestlé has launched digital tools to assist UAE consumers in verifying product batch numbers and requesting refunds or replacements if necessary.
Previously, EDE had recalled a number of Nestlé baby formulas, including NAN Comfort 1, NAN OPTIPRO 1, NAN SUPREME PRO 1, 2, and 3, S-26 Ultima 1, 2, and 3, and Alfamino.
This recent action comes after quality assessments carried out by UAE authorities on Nestlé-branded infant formula products to safeguard consumer health.
