Naseej focuses on transitioning from a conventional consumption model to a sustainable framework that emphasizes resource preservation, recycling, and creating lasting economic benefits. This initiative aligns with the UAE's broader goals for sustainability and its national development agenda.
Collaboratively established by the National Projects Office, the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, Emirates Foundation, and Tadweer Group, Naseej acts as a centralized platform uniting government bodies, industry players, researchers, and community members to foster sustainable practices throughout the textile value chain.
Inspired by the UAE's roots in craftsmanship and responsible resource utilization, Naseej aims to promote modern circular economy practices in daily life while honoring these traditional values.
Her Highness Sheikha Mariam bint Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who leads the initiative, emphasized its significance in underlining the UAE's dedication to sustainability and prudent resource management. She noted its potential to encourage positive changes in behavior, enhance community involvement, and facilitate lasting development for future generations.
His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan commended Naseej for its role in merging circular economy concepts with the UAE's sustainable development strategy. He highlighted the collective efforts of various groups, including institutions and communities, in reassessing the value and utility of resources.
The launch comes at a critical time as textile waste continues to escalate globally and within the UAE, with approximately 220,000 tonnes produced annually in the country. Naseej aims to tackle this concern through enhanced collection and recycling initiatives, innovation in research, and the advocacy of responsible consumption habits.
UAE's Minister of Economy and Tourism, Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri, mentioned that the initiative contributes to the nation's aim of establishing a comprehensive circular economy aligned with global best practices. He explained that Naseej would establish a national structure linking policy shifts, industry actions, and public involvement to meet the UAE Circular Economy Policy 2031 objectives.

The groundwork for Naseej commenced during COP28, bolstered by the National Projects Office's backing. Several MOUs have already been formalized with partners throughout the textile ecosystem, including fashion labels, manufacturers, recycling firms, research organizations, and community groups.
Naseej will kick off with its inaugural community engagement event, "The Fabric of Possibility," set to occur from June 5-7, 2026, at Yas Mall in Abu Dhabi. This interactive event invites attendees to explore topics around textile waste, engage with sustainable solutions, and partake in activities that champion a circular economy. Similar events are slated for other UAE regions in subsequent phases.
Post-launch, Naseej plans to introduce various national programs focusing on sustainable textile practices while expanding collection and recycling frameworks, supporting research and pilot initiatives, and developing scalable market-based solutions.
By uniting policy, industry leadership, and community involvement under one cohesive strategy, Naseej solidifies the UAE's position at the forefront of global circular economy implementation, showcasing a balanced approach to fostering economic growth alongside environmental sustainability.
