A significant enhancement in trade relations between the UAE and India was marked by the signing of an agreement aimed at establishing a Trusted Digital Trade Corridor. This collaboration between Abu Dhabi Customs and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) of India was officiated during the Abu Dhabi Investment Forum held in Mumbai.
The formal agreement was signed by Rashed Lahej Al Mansoori, Director General of Abu Dhabi Customs, and Shri Vimal Kumar Srivastava, Chief Commissioner of Customs for Mumbai Zone-II, with high-level representatives from both countries present at the event.
This initiative is a strategic effort to revolutionise cross-border trade through innovations in digital technology, enabling real-time data exchanges and the implementation of secure automated processes. The Trusted Digital Trade Corridor aims to enhance customs efficiency and transparency by merging trade systems from the UAE and India.
The planned collaboration seeks to establish a cohesive technical framework supported by both public and private sector entities. The initial phase will concentrate on developing a model conducive to seamless digital trade, aiming for quicker clearances and fewer manual interventions.
Officials from both nations expect that the pilot's outcomes will inform a sustainable framework for future trusted digital corridors, thereby strengthening the comprehensive economic partnership while also modernising customs procedures.
