His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, met today with His Excellency Lee Jae-myung, President of the Republic of Korea, to bolster cooperation and advance their Special Strategic Partnership and Comprehensive Economic Partnership. The meeting convened at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi during President Lee’s state visit.
At the outset, Sheikh Mohamed warmly welcomed President Lee, expressing confidence that the visit would further solidify UAE-Korea relations and their mutual vision for sustainable growth. Key discussion topics included enhancing cooperation in areas such as trade, economy, investment, and renewable energy.
Both leaders explored emerging opportunities in technology, artificial intelligence, sustainability, and education. They sought ways to extend collaborations that resonate with the development priorities of both nations, while also addressing regional and international affairs, emphasizing the need for peace and stability, especially within the Middle East.
Sheikh Mohamed highlighted the strategic relationship between the nations founded on trust and mutual respect, reaffirming the UAE's commitment to enhancing economic ties and investing in a progressive partnership with Korea. The anticipated signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in 2024 is seen as a significant step in their growing economic collaboration, unlocking new avenues in trade and investment.
Furthermore, he noted that Korea ranks among the UAE’s key trade partners, commending the substantial advancements in bilateral relations. He stressed the significance of forging partnerships focused on growth with nations that align with the UAE’s goal for sustainable development.
President Lee commended the robust relationship shared by the two countries and expressed eagerness to explore collaborative ventures in technology, energy, and culture. He also conveyed his appreciation for the UAE's leadership and the warm reception accorded to his team, signing the VIP guestbook to underscore the strategic partnership, labeling the UAE-Korea relationship as a benchmark for mutual growth and advancement.
To commemorate their meeting, Sheikh Mohamed hosted a luncheon for President Lee and his delegation. Earlier, both leaders engaged with a community group comprising students, engineers, and nuclear energy professionals contributing to UAE's development initiatives, alongside an economic delegation from both nations.
Several high-ranking UAE officials were present, including His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister; H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi; and H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. The Korean delegation comprised ministers and senior officials accompanying President Lee.
Both parties affirmed their dedication to fortifying the UAE-Korea partnership, underpinned by shared interests, innovation, economic growth, and cultural collaboration. This visit exemplifies the ongoing strategic, economic, and cultural ties between the two nations, setting the groundwork for deeper cooperation in the coming years.
