WHO Team Evaluates UAE Hospital's Role in Gaza Relief

Members of the World Health Organisation (WHO) recently visited the UAE field hospital situated in Rafah, southern Gaza Strip, to evaluate the medical and humanitarian assistance being extended to the Palestinian community during the persistent crisis.

This delegation comprised Luca Pigozzi, Acting Head of WHO's Sub-Office in Gaza, Roy Cosico, Technical Officer for Emergency Medical Teams (EMT) from WHO headquarters, and Heba Al Najjar, WHO Emergency Medical Teams Coordinator for the occupied Palestinian territory.

Upon arrival, the team was greeted by Ali Al Shehhi, Head of the UAE Mission in Gaza under Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 and the Director of the UAE field hospital. During the meeting, Al Shehhi detailed the hospital’s healthcare services, treatment initiatives, and continual contributions toward Gaza’s medical sphere.

He stressed the significant medical aid being delivered to injured patients throughout Gaza, along with crucial support and supplies provided to local medical facilities through Operation Chivalrous Knight 3. This initiative underscores the UAE’s broader humanitarian mission to assist Palestinians impacted by the ongoing conflict.

The delegation toured various sections of the UAE field hospital, examining the treatment areas, surgical units, and specialized medical services. They witnessed firsthand the UAE medical team’s efforts, as they persist in providing vital healthcare and emergency support to those in dire need.

WHO representatives lauded the UAE’s humanitarian initiatives and recognized the essential role played by the field hospital in delivering critical medical care to those affected in Gaza. They appreciated the commitment of the medical personnel and the high-quality care being offered, particularly under such demanding circumstances.

Ali Al Shehhi reaffirmed the UAE’s dedication to assisting Gaza’s healthcare system and ensuring that humanitarian support consistently reaches those in need. He emphasized the UAE’s unwavering resolve to ease the hardships faced by the Palestinian citizens through its medical and humanitarian projects.

Since its inception, the UAE field hospital in Rafah, along with the Emirates Medical Centre for Primary Care in Al Mawasi, Khan Younis, has extended healthcare services to nearly 97,000 patients from all over Gaza. These initiatives reflect the UAE’s enduring commitment to humanitarian relief and medical assistance during this crisis.
