In a landmark development for aviation safety, the United Arab Emirates and Kazakhstan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing cooperation in the investigation of aircraft accidents and incidents. This agreement was formalized at the Dubai Airshow 2025, and signals a significant stride for both nations towards better investigative practices and operational coordination.
The MoU was executed by Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), and Talgat Lastaev, the Vice-Minister of Transport for Kazakhstan. The signing event was held at the GCAA's platform, featuring attendance by senior officials, including Captain Aysha Mohammed Al Hamili, the Assistant Director-General for the Air Transport Accident Investigation Sector at the GCAA.
The new framework will facilitate close cooperation in several vital areas. It includes provisions for mutual support in investigations, allowing access to necessary technical resources and specialized facilities. Additionally, there will be an exchange of personnel for training purposes, enhancing investigative techniques and knowledge-sharing between experts from both nations.
Moreover, the MoU promotes observer involvement in each other’s investigations, allowing for firsthand exposure to methodologies and procedures. Plans for technical visits, joint meetings, and comprehensive information-sharing are also outlined, all conducted in alignment with national laws and international aviation regulations.
The event at one of the world’s largest aviation fairs accentuates the importance of global partnerships in aviation safety. This MoU strengthens both nations' dedication to upholding high standards in aviation oversight and continuously refining accident investigation methods.
