Actor Tulasi, who transitioned from a child star to an esteemed presence in Telugu and Tamil cinema, has decided to retire from filmmaking, sharing her heartfelt announcement on Instagram. This marks the conclusion of a stunning 58-year career, which began when she was merely three months old.
In her posts, Tulasi included an image of Sai Baba’s feet paired with the line: “Guard and guide me and my son Sai!! oh deva oh Sainadha.” She also reflected with a quote, stating: “Trust your intuition. You don’t need to explain or justify your feelings to anyone, just trust your own inner guidance, it knows best.” A few posts later, she confirmed her retirement, writing: “Happy retirement! Here’s to savoring every moment of your new freedom and adventures.” She elaborated on her decision, saying: “In continuation of my shirdi darshan this December 31, I wish myself a happy retirement. I will embrace my journey in tranquility with SAINADHA. Thank you all for helping me learn about life, SAIRAM.”
Tulasi was born on June 20, 1967, and made her debut in the Telugu film industry as a three-month-old infant, following a request from her mother’s friend Savitri to feature her in a cradle for a song in the movie Bharya. She quickly rose to fame with child roles in films like Seetamalakshmi (1978), Sankarabharanam (1979), and Mudda Mandaram (1981).
At 28, Tulasi married Kannada director Sivamani and briefly stepped away from the silver screen, transitioning to work as a voice actress for projects, including those helmed by Mani Ratnam. She made her return to acting in 2003 with the Kannada film Excuse Me, taking on a maternal role that became emblematic of her career. She then starred in significant films such as Mr Perfect, Iddarammayilatho, and Dear Comrade, alongside appearances in shows like Oka Chinna Family Story.
