At a recent Academy event, director Alejandro González Iñárritu, who collaborated with Tom Cruise on an upcoming film set for a release next October, introduced the star. Iñárritu commended Cruise’s artistic precision, stating, "It is not merely about how far he runs or how high he jumps. It's about his careful decisions in those small movements."

Cruise, aged 63 and a four-time Oscar contender without a win, was honored with an Honorary Oscar for his extensive contributions to film, from Risky Business to the Top Gun series and the Mission: Impossible collection. The accolade also acknowledged his efforts in advocating for the cinematic arts in an age dominated by streaming and social media.

During his acceptance speech, Cruise shared how significant films were in his upbringing. "The world suddenly felt so much bigger than the one I knew," he reflected. He recounted working various jobs to afford movie tickets, expressing his lifelong devotion to cinema: "I will always strive to support this art form and uphold new voices, ensuring what makes cinema impactful is preserved, hopefully without too many more injuries." He humorously referenced a stunt accident in 2017 where he broke his ankle.

"Making films isn’t just what I do; it’s who I am," he affirmed.

The event also gave the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award to Dolly Parton for her philanthropic efforts, notably creating a library distributing over 300 million books to children. Parton delivered her acceptance via video.

Other distinguished honorees included actor and choreographer Debbie Allen and production designer Wynn Thomas.
