After two weeks in cinemas, Rashmika Mandanna and Ayushmann Khurrana’s Thamma — part of Maddock Films’ horror-comedy lineup — has reached a domestic total of Rs 123.80 crore, yet it is finding it hard to sustain the momentum that greeted its opening.
On Tuesday the film added roughly Rs 2 crore, a small improvement over Monday that industry watchers attribute to ticket deals and modest weekday footfall. Its extended opening week brought in Rs 108.4 crore, making Thamma the second-biggest opener in Maddock’s horror-comedy universe behind Stree 2, and marking Ayushmann’s largest opening to date, eclipsing DreamGirl 2’s Rs 10.69 crore start.
Thamma enjoyed double-digit daily returns through day six, fuelled by positive word-of-mouth and holiday audiences, but the post-festival period triggered a pronounced drop — a familiar pattern once the initial buzz subsides. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh observed that the picture held steady overall, with daytime weekday shows affected but evenings and the South market helping to shore up business.
Critic Saibal Chatterjee highlighted the leads’ comic-horror chemistry, noting that both actors handle the film’s physical and expressive demands with ease. He singled out Rashmika for particularly strong work, saying the pair move effortlessly between moments of bafflement and knowing control.
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Thamma stars Rashmika Mandanna and Ayushmann Khurrana, supported by Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Paresh Rawal. Produced by Dinesh Vijan, the film is linked to Maddock’s other genre entries including Stree, Stree 2, Bhediya and Munjya. Despite a slowdown in week two, Thamma remains a memorable addition to the studio’s comedy-horror catalogue thanks to its performances and tonal mix.
