In a heartfelt initiative, Thailand’s Ministry of Interior has extended an invitation to Buddhists nationwide to join a ceremony honoring the royal Bodhi Tree on Visakha Bucha Day 2026, scheduled for May 31. This event aims to foster Buddhist traditions while promoting communal unity and spiritual introspection.
Interior Ministry Permanent Secretary Arsit Sampanrat noted that this event stems from a royal gesture by His Majesty the King, who graciously presented the “Phra Sri Maha Bodhi Damasarajabopit” tree to the Ministry of Interior. This significant Bodhi Tree was distributed to provincial governors and ceremoniously planted to commemorate the King’s birthday anniversary in 2025.
The Bodhi Tree holds profound relevance in Buddhism, symbolizing enlightenment and spiritual understanding. Officials believe that the royal Bodhi Tree initiative stands as a beacon of national unity, prosperity, and blessings for all Thai citizens. It also aims to deepen the bond between communities and their Buddhist traditions.
On this significant date in the Buddhist calendar, His Majesty the King has also generously provided artificial lotus flower arrangements for use in ceremonies nationwide. These offerings will serve as esteemed acts of devotion at various designated Bodhi Tree sites across each province.
Each of the 76 provinces will witness concurrent ceremonies organized by provincial administrations, local government agencies, and religious groups, starting at 8:39 PM on May 31. Provincial governors will lead the proceedings in their respective regions.
Organizers emphasize that the lotus offering ceremony embodies gratitude, reverence, and commitment to Buddhist teachings. This collective worship event is anticipated to unite diverse communities while honoring Thailand’s rich religious and cultural heritage.
